Community Empowerment

Financial literacy & economic inclusion for all

In Development

Program Vision

POAK is developing a comprehensive Community Empowerment program to help both men and women build financial independence. We are actively planning to launch using the proven Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) model. Community members will form groups, pool savings, and provide small loans to each other to start or expand small businesses. Financial literacy training will be at the core of the program.

Planned Offerings

  • VSLA Groups – Men and women saving together, accessing small loans (planned)
  • Financial Literacy Training – Budgeting, saving, debt management, and investment basics (planned)
  • Business Training – Marketing, record‑keeping, and business planning (planned)
  • Startup Support – Seed capital and equipment for new businesses (planned)
  • Market Linkages – Connecting entrepreneurs to markets and customers (planned)
  • Leadership Development – Training community leaders to sustain the program (planned)

How VSLA Will Work

1

Form a Group

15-25 people meet weekly, contributing a small amount to a shared fund.

2

Save Together

Savings accumulate over 9-12 months, typically 100-500 KES per week.

3

Access Loans

Members borrow from the group fund at low interest to start or grow a business.

4

Share Profits

At year end, profits are shared equally among all members.
